Your Baby
During pregnancy week 3 your baby is too tiny to see with the naked eye. In fact at three weeks pregnant your baby is mostly a ball of cells that is growing at a remarkable rate. As you continue your pregnancy week by week however you will notice that this tiny ball of cells quite rapidly starts taking on a more human shape, with a head slightly larger than the tiny arm and leg buds that will be forming.
By pregnancy week 3 you may start wondering about having twins. Twins occur when the ovaries release more than one egg, or when the egg in the uterus divides into two. More and more women are having twins in recent years. This trend is due to a number of factors including a rise in use of fertility treatments and increasing maternal age, which slightly increases your risk for having multiples.
Changes In Growing Baby
By 3 weeks pregnant you probably won't know yet if you have successfully conceived and are pregnant. By this time a pregnancy test will not likely turn positive. Despite this your baby is growing rapidly. The tiny ball of cells that is forming your baby is multiplying at a dizzying rate. During 3 weeks pregnant the tiny ball of cells that makes up your baby is small enough to fit through the eye of a sewing needle. That tiny ball of cells will grow up however as your pregnancy continues week to week to form a six to nine pound baby (in most cases). Your baby now consists of chromosomes from your partner and you. You will each contribute 23 chromosomes to help create your baby.

Your Body's Development
By pregnancy week 3 you are probably anxious to start feeling some physical changes of pregnancy. Most women will not start experiencing physical symptoms however until they miss their period, usually during pregnancy week 4. You may however experience some slight spotting during ovulation or during conception. This is perfectly normal and may be a sign that you have successfully conceived.
If you are trying to get pregnant now is the time to start taking care of your body. If you haven't already you should start taking a prenatal supplement. You should avoid alcohol, drugs and smoking throughout your pregnancy to ensure the health and well being of your baby. You should also start eating a healthy diet and continue exercising regularly. If you have not exercised up until this point in time chances are you can still start a healthy and safe exercise routine during your pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider about safe activities (like walking). Exercise during a normal pregnancy is very healthy for both mother and baby. It may even reduce the time you spend in labor and speed up your recovery after you have the baby!
Changes In Your Body
You probably aren't noticing many changes except for some slight bloating which is also a premenstrual symptom. You may consider weighing yourself during this week to get a baseline weight measurement before starting your pregnancy. As you continue your pregnancy week by week you should strive to gain a healthy amount of weight. Weight gain during pregnancy is perfectly normal. Most women will need to gain between 25 and 35 pounds if they are a normal weight before conceiving. Don't obsess too much about your weight however if you are regularly exercising and eating healthily during pregnancy. Some women naturally gain more or less depending on their body type and genetics.
Within the next 10 days or so you should be able to take a home pregnancy test that will tell you if you are pregnant! Even the most sensitive tests typically can't detect a pregnancy until a few days before your missed period. If you detect a pregnancy prior to this chances are your conception or ovulation date may be earlier than you initially expected!
